Quincy Chiropractor Milton Chiropractic Dr. Jay Provenzano — The six worst words I hear in my office with most new patient is, “I thought it would go away!”
What most people don’t understand is that our bodies have a great way of adapting to pain but nothing will ultimately keep the pain away until what’s causing the problem is fixed…right!
Think about seeing a water stain in your ceiling, and you put it off and put it off, until a few months later your ceiling falls down because it’s saturated with water. Well now the hundred dollar fix just became a two thousand dollar fix because you put it off.
Well the same is true for our bodies. Over time we all endure three types of stressors; physical, chemical and emotional. It is these three stressors that can manifest in our bodies and create pain symptoms.
So now you’re asking how can you avoid these stressors…right? Well that’s not a simple answer because no matter how much you pay attention to detail you still may experience one of these stressors to a certain degree. The best thing to do is manage and prevent!
Chiropractic care is an excellent way to maintain motion in your spine and alleviate stress on your spine and nervous system. Given that your spine houses your spinal cord and nerves, if your spine is not working properly; neither will the rest of your body because of the interference with the nervous system. It pays to keep up with your spinal hygiene and keep all your systems functioning the way they were meant to function.
However, chiropractic is not the only way to protect yourself. Keeping a basic routine of exercises to strengthen your core and low back muscles is essential. The great thing is all of these exercises can be performed in the comfort of your home. Now I know exercising isn’t something that everybody enjoys, but if you suffer with chronic low back pain or want to prevent it from happening you need to get over it and get to work.
A few low impact exercises that can be performed are:
1. Abdominal crunches
2. Oblique/side crunches
3. Prone archups
4. Prone alternating arm/leg ups
Specifics for you on these exercises should be discussed with your chiropractor/trainer.
No matter what your fitness level, age or gender it’s time to get moving to protect the one body that you were given. Of course you should always consult your physician prior to exercising, and yes that can be your family chiropractor. Good luck and it’s up to you to make a difference in your life!
